Dog psychologist

A holistic approach to helping your dog

Traditional dog training doesn't solve unwanted behaviour. My approach as a dog behaviourist addresses the underlying causes behind problematic behaviour and helps owners and their dogs reconnect. I am in many regards a dog psychologist, and the approach is also very much collaborative, so you can continue the good work and help your dog maintain good behaviour on an ongoing basis.

Our process: Shamans' holistic approach to rehabilitation

At Shaman's Way, I go beyond traditional dog training—my focus is holistic rehabilitation. Here's how we will work together to bring peace to your dog and your home.

Initial Assessment

I meet with you and your dog to observe behaviour and interaction patterns. Together, we discuss your dog's history, habits, and environment.

Owner Engagement

I will evaluate how you and your dog communicate, identifying areas for improvement. Education is key—the process includes training you to understand and respond effectively to your dog's needs.

Customised Rehabilitation Plan

Based on my observations, I will create a training plan designed to rehabilitate your dog using positive reinforcement dog training techniques. This approach is rooted in canine psychology, addressing the underlying causes of behavioural challenges.

Ongoing Sessions

Training sessions are focused and flexible, with a maximum of two sessions per week to ensure steady progress without overwhelming your dog. The main aim is to build trust, reduce stress, and foster a lasting bond between you and your dog. Together, we'll achieve harmony and understanding through personalised care and support.

Veterinary Backed Practices

Acupuncture - A holistic approach to dog well-being

In my practice I collaborate closely with veterinary acupuncturist to provide a holistic approach to canine well-being. In this way I can combine behavioural training with alternative therapies for optimal results. As a behaviourist, I can address behavioural issues like anxiety, aggression, or fear-based behaviours. Meanwhile the acupuncture treatment can alleviate physical and mental discomfort, which may be contributing to these behaviours, such as chronic pain or muscle tension, high stress levels after past trauma. The acupuncture has been shown to have calming effects and can support a dog's nervous system, which can help improve how they respond to certain situations.

Addressing both the mind and body can lead to a more holistic approach to a dog's well-being. Acupuncture can also promote relaxation, making it easier for the dog to focus during training sessions. When combined, these therapies might result in faster progress compared to just focusing on behaviour modification alone.

Pricing

As a dog psychologist, my aim is to solve the root of the problem, not the symptoms, working with you long term rather than providing a quick fix. Prices are £50 per hour-long session. The first consultation is usually around three hours, focusing on finding out the history and assessing your dog. From there we customise a plan going forward on a case-by-case basis for your dog.

Consultations

What happens during a consultation.

This is to gather information about the dog and its owner's concerns, followed by a review of their history. This includes the dog's age, breed, medical history, previous ownership, and spay/neuter status to understand potential behavioural influences. Specific behavioural issues are then assessed, including triggers, frequency, and intensity, alongside observation of the dog's body language and interactions with its environment and owner.

I will also look at daily routines and environmental factors to identify underlying causes and develop a personalised plan. I will work with you to set goals and provide ongoing support to help address the behaviour effectively, ensuring long-term improvement and preventing future issues.
